On Examino, an exam and its subject are created together: you can't have one without the other. This ensures every exam always has a grading scale or competency grid attached from the moment it's created.
Creation steps
From your dashboard, start creating a new exam.
Give it a clear name (subject, level, date) so you can find it easily later.
Choose the grading mode: grading scale (numeric grade) or competency-based assessment (grid with proficiency levels). This choice structures the entire grading process that follows, so think it through before confirming.
Define the subject's structure: the questions, and depending on the mode chosen, the points per question or the competencies assessed.
After creation
Once the exam and its subject are created, you can:
Import your students' papers for this exam.
Edit the grading scale or grid as long as no grading has started.
Launch AI grading as soon as the papers are imported and split.
If you need to reuse an existing subject for another class, you can duplicate an exam instead of recreating one from scratch.
