How it works
How to use this EZ grader
Two numbers and the grade appears. Here is how to grade a whole stack of tests in a few minutes.
Enter the test length
Type the number of questions on the test or quiz. If questions are worth different points, type the total points instead.
Count the wrong answers
Type the number of mistakes, or switch to “right” to count correct answers instead. Tick “Allow half points” if you give partial credit, or click a score in the grading chart.
Save and grade the next paper
Click “Save and next student”. The score is saved and the class average updates. When the stack is done, click “Copy scores” and paste them into your gradebook.
How to calculate a test grade
To calculate a test grade, divide the number of correct answers by the total number of questions, then multiply by 100. A student who misses 3 questions on a 20-question test has 17 correct answers:
17 ÷ 20 × 100 = 85%
To turn the percentage into a letter grade, compare it to your grading scale: 85% is a B on both the 10-point and the plus/minus scale.
Test grade examples
10-question quiz, 2 wrong: 8 ÷ 10 × 100 = 80%, a B- (a B on a 10-point scale).
25-question multiple-choice test, 4 wrong: 21 ÷ 25 × 100 = 84%, a B.
50-point test, 3.5 points lost: 46.5 ÷ 50 × 100 = 93%, an A.
Grading scale: percentage to letter grade
Most US schools use a 10-point grading scale, and many add plus and minus grades. This EZ grader uses the plus/minus scale by default. Tick “No plus/minus” to switch to the 10-point scale: the chart and every score update instantly. Some districts use a 7-point scale, shown below for reference.

What is an EZ grader?
The EZ grader, also known as an easy grader or quick grader, started as a cardboard slide chart that teachers kept on their desk: slide it to the number of questions, then read the score next to the number of wrong answers.
This online EZ grader does the same job for any test length up to 500 questions, with half points, letter grades, and a class average, on a computer or a phone.
